Privacy policy

GTA Explained (gtaexplained.com) is an independent fan site about GTA 6. We built it to collect as little about you as possible. This page explains what that means in practice.
The short version
- There are no accounts, comments, newsletters or contact forms.
- Our own code sets no cookies.
- We measure visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies, and with Google Analytics, which does.
- We show ads through Google AdSense, and Google may use cookies for them.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked first, before Google Analytics stores cookies or personalized ads are shown. See What happens when you visit and Advertising below.
What happens when you visit
Hosting. Cloudflare serves the site. Like any web host, it processes technical information such as your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. In some cases, for example when it needs to check that a visitor isn’t an automated bot, Cloudflare may set a security cookie for that check. Cloudflare’s privacy policy covers this processing.
Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Cloudflare says this service doesn’t use cookies or local storage and doesn’t fingerprint visitors. We see totals, not individual people.
We also use Google Analytics to see which pages are read, how people found the site, roughly where they are (country and city) and which device and browser they use. It stores cookies (named _ga) to tell new visits from returning ones. Google says Google Analytics doesn’t log or store IP addresses. We see reports, not named people.
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google Analytics stores no cookies until you agree in the consent message. Until then it sends Google only cookie-free signals, which Google uses to estimate visit numbers. Anyone can block Google Analytics on every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services.
Tools. The countdown and the storage check run entirely in your browser. Your time zone and any number you type stay on your device.
Fonts. We host our own fonts, so loading a page doesn’t contact a font service.
Embedded videos
Some pages may embed official trailers from YouTube. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Your browser still connects to YouTube’s servers to show the player, and when you play a video, Google may collect information under its own privacy policy.
When you email us
If you write to contact@gtaexplained.com, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply and to handle your request, such as a correction or a takedown. We don’t add you to a mailing list or share your details for marketing. We keep emails only as long as we need them for your request, except that we keep a record of correction and takedown requests.
Links to other sites
We link to sources, stores and official pages. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this policy doesn’t cover.
Advertising
We show ads through Google AdSense to pay for the site. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technology to show ads, measure them and limit how often you see them. They may use your visits to this site and others to choose which ads you see.
- Google explains this in how it uses cookies in advertising and how it uses information from sites that use its services.
- You can turn off personalized ads in Google’s Ads Settings.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for their consent through a consent message before personalized ads are shown.
The privacy, terms and contact pages carry no ads.
Your choices
You can ask what information we hold about you, which is usually just an email you sent us, or ask us to delete it. Write to contact@gtaexplained.com.
Changes to this policy
When we change how the site handles information, for example by adding a new third-party service, we update this page first and change the effective date above.
