Fake GTA 6 downloads: how to spot them and what to do if you clicked

There’s no GTA 6 for PC, Android or iPhone, and there’s no early access. The game launches on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. The only real download before launch is the pre-load on those two consoles, through the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, from November 10. Any other GTA 6 download, APK, beta invite, leaked build or free key you find online is fake.
What security researchers have found
Netcraft checked GTA 6-themed domains first seen between July 1 and October 27 and kept finding the same four lures: leaked builds, early access, mobile versions and free giveaways. Some pages asked for crypto payments of up to $199. One download was flagged by 34 of 68 security engines on VirusTotal, and Netcraft stresses that a clean scan doesn’t prove a file is safe.
Malwarebytes found fake demo sites, reached through search results and paid ads, that delivered password-stealing malware. Another fake, a 113 GB file, was almost entirely empty padding around a tiny malicious program, so a big file proves nothing.
How to spot a fake
- It offers the game on PC or mobile. Reports of a PC version next year don’t change this: there’s nothing to download today.
- It promises a beta, demo, early access or leaked copy. Rockstar hasn’t announced any of these.
- It hides a free key behind a survey, app or subscription. Those offers earn money for the site’s operator, not you.
- It asks for crypto or a wallet connection. One fake site tried to drain whole wallets, not just charge a fee.
- It wants your login. Fake Rockstar sign-in pages are a common trap.
- It tells you to turn off your antivirus. No real game download needs that.
Why fakes look convincing
Real logos, the right release date and a high search ranking prove nothing. In November 2025, a Google phone notification pointed people to an AI-made fan video dressed up as Rockstar’s final trailer, and it passed 600,000 views. If something is real, you’ll find it on Rockstar’s own site.
If you already clicked
- You only opened the page: close it, and don’t download anything or sign in.
- You ran a file: stop signing in to accounts on that device, update your security software and run a scan.
- You ran a file or typed a password: on a clean device, change your passwords, starting with email. Turn on two-factor authentication, including Rockstar’s 2-Step Verification, and sign out of other sessions, because a stolen session can sometimes skip 2FA.
- You gave card details: tell your card issuer right away and ask for a refund. Crypto payments generally can’t be reversed.
Where to buy safely
Buy from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Rockstar Games Store or a retailer you know. Boxed copies hold a download code, not a disc, and reach stores on November 12. After launch, Netcraft expects scams to move on to free in-game money, fake support pages and cheats, so keep the same rules.
