Can you upgrade to the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition? What boxed buyers need to know

Yes, reportedly, but only after you’ve used the code in the box. There’s reportedly no physical Ultimate Edition of GTA 6, so a boxed buyer who wants the extras starts with the Standard Edition and adds a digital upgrade.

GameRant quotes Rockstar’s support page as saying a physical version “is not available” and that boxed Standard Edition owners can buy the upgrade from the PlayStation or Microsoft stores “after their Standard Edition code has been used.” TwistedVoxel describes the same route. We haven’t read that page ourselves yet, so we’re treating this as reported.

What boxed buyers need to know

Boxes hold a download code, not a disc, and they reach stores on November 12. After that:

  1. Use the code first. TwistedVoxel says Rockstar lets you redeem it as soon as you have it, although the game stays locked until release.
  2. Then buy the upgrade from your console’s store. TwistedVoxel says there’s no time limit, so you don’t have to decide on day one.
  3. Know what comes with the box. Buy before November 20 and you get the Vintage Vice City Pack, but the free month of GTA+ is for digital pre-orders only.

What it costs

GamingBible and GameRant report $20 and £20, although the price isn’t in the Rockstar wording GameRant quotes. It does match the gap between the editions: $79.99 and $99.99 in the US, and a reported £69.99 and £89.99 in the UK. So at list price, upgrading later shouldn’t cost more than buying the Ultimate Edition at the start.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE: Xbox yes, PlayStation not yet

This is what the stores showed at our last check on November 4:

Store Saudi Arabia UAE
Xbox SAR 80 USD 20
PlayStation Shown as unavailable Shown as unavailable

On Saudi Xbox, the SAR 309 Standard Edition plus the SAR 80 upgrade equals the SAR 389 Ultimate Edition.

PS5 buyers in both countries have a problem. Boxes sold there only work on accounts registered in that country, so the upgrade can only come from the local store, and we’ve found no date or price for it there. The same goes for digital Standard pre-orders. If you want the Ultimate content on PS5 at launch, the only route we can see today is the digital Ultimate Edition, at SAR 376.96 or AED 373.96.

Current prices for every edition are on our price page.
